Cocktail Talk

Dear Craig:

Welcome to CN Consulting's "Cocktail Talk".

Cocktail Talk is a casual monthly newsletter intended to arm you with amusing bits and bytes of information on whats happening in the computer world. Topics sure to break the ice and capture an audience at many a social or business event.

Cocktail Talk is archived on www.cnci.us

This can be a tough time of year. Anti-climactic, depressing, and if nothing else, boring.

Thanksgiving with it's turkey and football have come and gone, Christmas and Hanukkah with their lights, family and friends too. New Year's Eve, the playoffs, even the Super Bowl parties, are over.

There isn't much while we wait for that three day Memorial Day weekend with friends, BBQ, and an ice cold beer.

Oh sure, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo, and Mother's Day are important.

But the snow has melted  leaving our road's shoulders littered with cigarette butts and trash. It's cold and grey, our cars are constantly dirty, it gets dark at noon, the trees are barren, and there's "nothing to do". Cabin Fever can get to even  the best of us.

Here are six websites that will send you a weekly email or two with new and exciting events to get you out of the house every weekend.

Tell EstateSales.net how far you're willing to travel for an estate sale and it sends you an email each Wednesday or Thursday listing estate sales within that radius. Complete with hours, directions and pictures.

If you need a Chinese Dog statue, a creepy porcelain doll, are a collector of anything people collect, or just don't want to pay retail for tools or a leaf blower,  EstateSales.net is the place.

BrownPaperTickets.com will send you an email when new events are listed in your area. Once or twice a week. You can also go to their site and look for events. Maybe a brewery tour or night of stand up comedy. There's an event March 4th, this Friday, called First Friday Funnies which promises to be good.

Groupon.com is more chatty, nagging, but if you want to play laser tag, learn French cooking, go to a murder mystery, or take a concealed carry class groupon.com may be the place to go. Some things you need to book in advance, but maybe you want something to look forward to. They have over a billion sold.

VividSeats.com is also a little nagging, but they have seats for sports, concerts, and theater with a mix of last minute and plan ahead events. The Who, the Cubs, Cabaret, Paula Poundstone, or even Cinderella - the Musical..

For events like the Teen Poetry Slam State Finals or the Frozen Tundra Wine Fest try WhoFish.org. They'll send you an email or two with a twist.

BlueToadAuctions.com is definitely an experience. Every Saturday morning you can grab a paddle and bid on hundreds of estate sale items. Coin, stamp, and baseball cards, neon bar lights, slot cars, trains, and comic books at their warehouse.

This is where the antique store owners shop. BlueToadAuctions.com even auctions abandoned storage lockers just like on TV, and there's something about a live auction..

Join a mailing list, go to First Friday Funnies., buy a storage locker, decorate your Man Cave in lovely neon bar signs, or not, that's your call, and that's Cocktail Talk.

Thank you for reading,
