Currently, on Cocktail Talk - The Passion for Technology

People get passionate about technology. They can't wait for the new gadget to become available. I admit, my passion for technology has cooled over the years. Especially when it comes to text messaging.

Text messages can become annoying, Kind of like Life Apnea.

Can't we just save all those random little thoughts like "I'm hungry.", "I'm thirsty.",  "I'm bored." and roll them into one conversation and pay attention to matters at hand like work? The answer is no.

Since I'm not much on texting, and my passion for technology has cooled I only noticed Apple's new messaging toys by accident.

Apple's iOS 10 has added some really cute bells and whistles to it's messaging like  animated message bubbles and fully animated screens. So grab your iPhone and let's play.

Type your message, then press (maybe hard on a 6s or higher)  on the little blue arrow until the animation menu pops up. You'll see choices, that will demo themselves when chosen, like Slam, Loud, Gentle, and Invisible Ink.

Looking at the top of your screen you'll see you are in "Bubble" mode. If you tap "Screen" you can pick from seven full screen animations. Balloons, Confetti, Heart, Laser, Fireworks, Shooting Star, or Sparks.

Tap the little blue arrow and your message is sent. Some phones, those without iOS 10,  won't get the special effects. They'll just be told there was a special effect attached.

You can send a written message or drawing too. Start a new message, or use an existing one, and rotate your phone to landscape mode. Tap the squiggly button in the bottom right of the keyboard. write your message, draw a picture, or pick from one of the canned messages and tap Done.

Returned to the New Message screen you can continue typing and selecting bubble and full screen animations. Then just pick a victim and send it.

Then there's Digital Touch. Tap inside the text box then tap the right arrow on the left. Tap the heart icon and you're in Digital Touch.

Tap any icon on the right for a legend of how to use Digital Touch features like sending a kiss, your heartbeat, heartbreak, or a fireball. Tap the down arrow and you can invoke one of those snazzy options (sarcasm) from the black screen.

You can also doodle in the black area and send. If you need to doodle bigger just tap the up arrow to go full screen. Your doodle will be drawn live on the recipient's device right before their very eyes! (sarcasm)

If you're too important (sarcasm), or lazy, or you just hate Life Apnea, you can press and hold a message to get a menu of snappy replies (sarcasm) instead of bothering with a thought out response.

Lastly, but very importantly (sarcasm), there's emoji replacement.

Once you've typed out a message tap the emoji button. Any word that can be replaced with an emoji will be highlighted. Tap the word and a menu of associated emoji's appears.

Life Apnea, kisses, fireworks, heartbreak, sarcasm, or not, and that's Cocktail Talk.

Thank you for reading,
