It's
late at night and I'm hoping to sleep. I lay in bed with headphones
on surfing the iPad web to get tired eyes and there it is. A
hearing test that claims it can tell my age. Game on.
It
was pretty simple, it would have to be since our attention span has
devolved into that of a Goldfish.
Click
the button and answer Yes or No if you can hear anything. I did,
and didn't. It guessed my age group correctly.
So,
people younger than me can hear things I can't. Like dogs can hear
things I can't So young people are like dogs. I totally get
that, especially with teenagers.
Teenagers
and dogs can actually hear things I can't. They also spend
inordinate amounts of time lying on the couch licking themselves.
Game on.
I
would never drive through Northbrook at two in the morning on my
way home from the bars blowing a dog whistle just to shake things
up, and neither should you, but screwing with teenagers is a whole
different thing. Guess what! There's an app for that.
Yes,
there are apps that put out sounds at frequencies that we can't
hear, but teenagers can. Load up the app, start broadcasting, and
drive the little snakes out of the room like St. Patrick did in
Ireland.
Teen-A-Noise
is one such app, it has a cute little cartoon interface and seems
simple to use with annoyance levels one through four, but it is
full of pop-ups advertising a fairyland game about a girl with big
boobies. Another ridiculously advertising-heavy App was "High
Frequency".
High Frequnecy, aka "Noise", is a
whistle that you can scale to different frequencies, and has a 4+
rating. Each time you use it you are subjected to a 5 second
advertisement, and it seems to lack cleavage, but what really let
me down was the lack of knowing who the sounds were intended to
annoy. But then there's "Frequencies".
Frequencies
is pretty cool. It has settings to annoy children or animals,
although I fail to see the difference. It even lets you target
specific age groups, just like the hearing test does.. Frequencies
even has ringtones, so teenagers can get their midnight booty-calls
while their sleeping rents are totally oblivious..
While
we're on the topic of annoying noises I would be remiss if I did
not mention "Mosquito".
Anti
Mosquito, the Sonic Repeller, claims to produce a sound only
mosquitoes can hear and keep them away from your tasty flesh.
Reviews are mixed, and one fellow from the Yucatan says since he
can't hear it it must not work. Maybe if the mosquito's could let
out an audible scream when they heard the app it wold be more
convincing. I don't know.
Teenagers,
dogs, mosquito's, tasty flesh, or not, that's your call, and that's
Cocktail Talk.
