Cocktail Talk

Dear Craig:

Welcome to CN Consulting's "Cocktail Talk".

Cocktail Talk is a casual monthly newsletter intended to arm you with amusing bits and bytes of information on whats happening in the computer world. Topics sure to break the ice and capture an audience at many a social or business event.

Cocktail Talk is archived on www.cnci.us

Currently, on Cocktail Talk - Sweet Validation

Nancy (not her real name) and I were in the bar overlooking the marina as the last Dragon Boat teams finished their training session. They did a three stroke chant of  "Ice Cold Beer - Ice Cold Beer" that was clearly audible 100 yards away on the deck.

While we waited for the others to join us we chatted with our favorite lesbian firefighter and her girlfriend. I don't know what they were talking about really but I heard "Thank you. Finally. It feels so good to be validated.". It does.

I'm not the only one who believes that most predictions are nothing more than throwing a dart into the wall and drawing a circle around it later. But I do feel validated in a way.

The February 2013 Cocktail Talk discussed the long, if not eternal, life of things posted on the internet. It also mentioned Emily Sander.

Emily Sander was an 18 year old community college student in Kansas working as internet porn star Zoey Zane. Emily Sander was murdered in 2007 yet porn sites of her as Zoey Zane still remained. She's still on the web. Less, almost gone, but still there.

Validated.

The June 2015 Cocktail Talk discussed KickStarter, and Exploding Kittens.

None of the "10 Most Stupid Kickstarter Fails" came close to the absurdity of my favorite, Exploding Kittens.

Hopefuls Elan Lee (Xbox) and Shane Small (Xbox, Marvel) and cartoonist Matthew Inman, the mind behind popular web comic The Oatmeal, wanted to raise $1,000. Did they make it? You're probably sitting but hold on to something solid, we're jumping on the Richter Scale.

Yes, they raised $8,782,571 becoming the most funded KickStarter project in history. Exploding Kittens the card game was the #5 Amazon recommendation for Christmas 2016. They also have an app.

Validated.

The September 2016 Cocktail Talk discussed the darkness of the web and specifically http://www.opentopia.com  which lets you choose from "unsecured" video cameras around the world in bars, computer rooms, universities, swimming pools, kitchens, and much more. It has become even more.

http://www.opentopia.com/webcam/15516 is someones living room in Seattle. I've got clients that have security cameras and understand why and where they're installed. But now you can buy them at Costco and install them yourself. Be careful.

Validated.

Dead Porn Stars, Exploding Kittens, Candid Camera, Validation, or not, that's your call, and that's Cocktail Talk.

Thank you for reading,
